2023 Belgian Waffle San Diego Champion
Born and raised in Colorado Springs, Russell has long made time to enjoy the mountains. In his youth, Russell was addicted to mixing it up on tarmac and gravel, and wasted little time joining the competitive ranks at a very young age. By 13, he was racing bikes, and since pedalling into the competitive scene, he’s dominated contests at a blistering pace. Among Russell’s ever-growing war chest of multi-discipline biking honours are 5 National Championships (yes, FIVE!), a U23 Pan American Championship, participation on the 2016 U.S. Olympic Long Team, and U.S. representation during no less than 7 World Championships. In fact, he’s ascended the podium more than 40 times in his career. In 2023, Finsterwald finished just off the podium at Life Time Grand Prix. As he looks ahead to the 2024 season, Russell has his eyes firmly set on a Life Time Grand Prix podium spot.
My fuelling plan at Belgian Waffle consisted of a bottle of C90 and a C30 Energy Gel every hour. 120 carbs per hour total. This plan was super efficient and kept me well-fuelled and hydrated over the 6 hours.

Whiskey Off-Road Fat Tire Pro Crit
On a late-April night in Prescott Arizona, we had a blast shooting Neversecond athletes Keegan Swenson, Sofia Villafane and Russell Finsterwald throttle around a 1-mile road circuit against a stacked pro field at the Whiskey Off-Road El Yucatero Pro Fat Tire Crit.
